Role Purpose:

To be part of the Banking Investments team supporting Senior Officers and Division Head in delivering on the main Division KPIs. The Officer will contribute to many aspects of the Division work including the Portfolio performance monitoring and Management, Investments origination, Due diligence and implementations, and the Division regular reporting.

Key Functional Accountabilities and Activities:

Developing Financial Channels:

  • Contribute in Expanding ICD’s reach to markets and/or client base by capitalizing on new/existing channels (e.g. Islamic Banks, Ijara companies, Islamic mortgage companies, etc. and other non-FIs), and develop new means and products to meet the requirements of ICD and its clients.
  • Contribute to Developing, maintaining and monitoring Banking Equities investments to strengthen SME’s access to financing in member countries.
  • Create opportunities to enhance the development impact of ICD across its member countries. 
  • Supporting Senior Officers and Division Head in preparing required documentation and research to originate investments or Exit opportunities. ▪ Contribute in Applying ICD client origination and sourcing strategy, taking into consideration target countries, products, sectors, and development goals
  • Contribute to the conduct of the preliminary appraisal to assess the feasibility and viability of potential projects and alignment with ICD’s strategy and development objectives
  • Contribute to Identification of potential opportunities for corporate finance and other advisory services to the portfolio FIs ((including M&A, IPO, structured financing, capital raising etc.) thereby helping them become financially and operationally self-sustainable

Project Appraisal & Approval: 

  • Obtain necessary documents and information on Partners, prepare and safeguard project documents and details, contribute to the assessment of the opportunity and the proper conduct of the project, including commercial due diligence, risks and opportunities identifications, conduct required analysis and assessment of the opportunity, taking into consideration the partners ability and willingness to comply with ICD’s standards and practices.
  • Participate in the negotiations with the Partners and conduct relevant activities, including but not limited to preparation of the project timeline and disbursement cycles & criteria and equity exit parameters.
  • Contributing in Preparing the equity investment proposals and present them to the investment committee (IC).
  • Process the disbursement as per project structure and ensure all necessary steps are taken.
  • Ensures the processing of equity investments as per ICD’s policies and guidelines, and quality assurance standards on deliverables. 

Equity Investments and Exits:

  • Work closely with the Senior Officer and with Division Head and support him in all relevant aspect in assessing the opportunities, preparing the required documentation, strategizing for the deal structure and its execution, reviewing of the required documents and conducting the needed analysis, interacting with relevant parties, etc.
  • Contribute in Identifying necessary activities required to enhance value of equity investments and identify potential equity exit strategy and parameters once required return levels and development goals have been achieved.
  • Work with Partners in implementing value enhancing activities to ultimately improve the value of equity investments. 

Portfolio Management:

  • Gather and analyze required information for periodic revaluation of equity portfolio ▪ Update information on portfolio of Equity investments performance, follow up and disseminate related market trends, intelligence and updates, ensure proper filing of all relevant documents in the electronic porta and the physical files including legal documents, important correspondences with Partners, and other documents in a systemic manner.
  • Participate in the preparation of periodic equity exit plans ensuring that projects have reached the required maturity
  • Identify any problems with equity projects, and conduct activities to work-out (solution identification, negotiation and implementation)
  • Maintain the relationships with Partners ensuring they have a two-way communication channel with ICD and ensuring immediate reporting to its management and Senior officers.
  • Gather and arrange data for developing the periodic dashboard and ad-hoc reports outlining equity portfolio performance across all applicable metrics (disbursements, compliance with agreements, important Dates of Board and General Assemblies, etc)
  • Provide oversight of investees and attend board meetings or sub-committees (as applicable) and report to Division Head and Senior Officers to safeguard ICD’s investments and create value.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Contribute in maintaining appropriate relationship with all relevant stakeholders in order to continue to grow ICD operations in the banking sector of target countries.
  • Serve as a board member in investee bank’s boards (as and when applicable).

Qualifications/ Professional Experience:

• 3 years of experience in Equity investments, FIs environment / financial institutions preferably in a Shariah compliant context.

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Management or any relevant discipline.

• A certificate in Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Chartered Islamic Bankers, Charted Directors, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or any additional relevant professional certifications.

• Adequate understanding of financial institutions work and accounting.

• Working experience with PE firms, in other DFIs and /or prior experience within framework of IsDBG are a plus.

Language Skills:

  •  Capable of communicating in two of the working languages (Arabic, English and French), of which English is a must.
